Hacker Zines
Published by vx-underground, Black Mass is the zine your antivirus warned you about. It's a reverent, occultish, satanic guide to all things malware. Things like AV evasion, unpacking 90's DOS viruses, UEFI bootkits, deciphering the ancient tomes of Windows internals, you get the gist. It's a fairly new zine as well. There are only two issues currently out, but when vx-underground has the time and the will, rest assured there will be more Black Mass.
The world's first hacker zine. Part technical journal, part counter-cultural manifesto. They are about to release their 40th anniversary edition in Summer 2025. Phrack has been the underground's go-to for deep dives into exploit development, reverse engineering, phreaking lore, and hacker ethics. It's where classics like Smashing the Stack for Fun and Profit and Hacker's Manifesto were born. Each issue is a collection of technically profound exploits and commentary on the hacker ethos. Reading your first Phrack issue is a rite of passage for those who want to understand how systems break and why it matters.
A community-driven hacker zine where each article fits on a single page. Covers everything from demoscene and retrocomputing to modern exploits, compiler wizardry, and weird hardware. Lots of cool art as well. Founded by Gynvael Coldwind and built on the labor of many other talented people.

The Cyberpony Express is a community-driven project using Meshtastic LoRa radios (affordable and open source!) to build decentralized communication networks for a post-apocalyptic world. These networks enable off-grid text messaging without requiring internet or cellular service, creating a resilient system for disaster preparedness and community organization. This is a joint effort in collaboration with The Multiverse School and the High Desert Institute.
