Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
Your privacy is important. This site is designed from the ground up to collect as little data as possible. There are no analytics, no advertising networks, no third-party trackers, and no cookies of any kind placed on your device by this site.
What Data Is Collected
This site is self-hosted. The web server (Caddy) keeps a short operational log, and each entry records only:
- The date and time of the request
- The HTTP method (
GET,POST, and so on) - The response status code
- How long the request took to serve
- The protocol used, such as
HTTP/2.0
It does not record your IP address, the URL you requested or its query string, your request headers, your User-Agent string, the page you came from, or the headers sent back to you. Server errors are written to a separate diagnostic log that carries the same fields and no request details at all. Entries in both are rotated automatically and kept for 30 days.
These logs are used solely for diagnosing technical problems (broken links, server errors, etc.). They are never sold, shared with third parties, or used for profiling.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies on its own. The one exception is the comments section at the bottom of each article, powered by Remark42 — a self-hosted commenting engine running on the same OpenBSD server as the rest of the site. If you choose to log in to leave a comment, Remark42 stores an HttpOnly session cookie and a CSRF cookie, both scoped to /comments, neither of which leaves this server. If you never interact with the comments, no cookies are set.
JavaScript
This site runs without JavaScript on all pages except two: the Music page (sandboxed <iframe> embeds from Invidious) and the comments section at the bottom of every article (Remark42). The Remark42 widget script is served from this server — it does not phone home, run analytics, or send tracking pings to any third party. If you disable JavaScript, the rest of the site (articles, search, filters, RSS, tabs, error pages) continues to work; you'll just see a small banner where the comments would otherwise be.
Comments (Remark42)
Comments are stored in a BoltDB file on this OpenBSD server. Anonymous commenting is enabled — you can post without creating an account or providing an email address. If you do reserve a handle, your data lives only on this server. There are no third-party data processors. You can edit or delete your own comments at any time for as long as the database exists. Comment data has never been, and never will be, sold or shared.
External Links
This site links to external services including GitHub, LinkedIn, X, Medium, and Invidious. When you follow an external link, the destination site's own privacy policy applies. I have no control over what those services collect.
The "Now Playing" Widget
The homepage displays a music widget showing what I'm currently listening to. This data is pushed to the server from my personal devices via an authenticated API and stored in a local SQLite database. No data about your visit is collected through this feature.
